Another one of my simple recipe, this time for Prawns. I normally get raw fresh, never frozen, prawns from Asian markets. You would still have to remove the tail shells and clean them once you get home. This Spicy Fried Prawns is a quick easy recipe that takes about 2 minutes to prepare and about 4 to 7 minutes to fry each batch
Typical South Indian prawn fry is very similar to this recipe and is mostly served in non-vegetarian restaurants. This deep fried prawns recipe has only natural ingredients, no batter, and is actually good to eat. Kids love this with less spice of course. You can also check other south indian style recipes like Masala Omelet, Milk fish Fry, etc
Typical Prep time is about 2 minutes if the prawns are all clean and ready to marinate. If the prawns is not cleaned that would add about 5 minutes for 1 lb of raw prawns
Prep
- Total prep time : 2 Minutes
- Marinade time : 10 minutes
- Cook time : 3-7 minutes per batch
Now lets look at the ingredients in detail.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Fresh Prawns, large size, shell removed and cleaned
- Oil to fry
Spice Mix
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp ginger powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tblsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp table salt
- 1/4 tsp corn flour powder (optional)
Let’s look at the steps.
Steps
- Mix all the spice mix ingredients in a large bowl
- Add prawns and mix thoroughly
- Heat oil in a pan
- When hot add the prawns in batches and deep fry for 4-7 minutes
- Once cooked, remove from pan and place in paper napkins to absorb oil.
- Let it stil for about 2 minutes before serving hot
This goes well with many Rice based dishes, like Biryani, or by itself as a starter. Try it out and let me know.
Cheers
